Whoop World Update
Whoop World and Drift Park, online races and Team Deathmatch, a new drone progression, and more room to build and fly.
This is a big one. There's a shopping centre to explore, a drift festival to chase cars through, and two ways to compete with other pilots. This update includes fixes for the lag and collision issues introduced in the last version, for joining and for online play. We also changed how new pilots start, rebuilt the menus and gave map creators more room to work.
Farewell Playground
Playground has been the official map since the start. It's been a wild ride, thousands and thousands of players enjoyed that map. And it is now time to retire it. 🫡
You will still be able to find Playground now under the name Playground Classic in the Community Maps (under val's profile).
Welcome to Whoop World
Whoop World is the new starting map! A four-level giant mall built for tiny drones and ambitious flight paths. Dive through the atrium, thread the shops and balconies, or follow the monorail through the building. There's a kart Speedway, an indoor coaster, the Funplex and rooftop rides, with plenty of gaps between them.
The covered car park has an open spiral, and the expansion site outside adds another dive spot. Shops, signs, lighting and planting have had a detail pass for flying a few centimetres from them. There are no cars here; chase the karts and rides instead. Watch the water: drones are not waterproof!
Drift Park
Drift Park unlocks at level 3. It's an industrial motorsport festival around a long drift circuit, with cranes, towers, grandstands and room for bigger drones.
Drift cars come with a brand new model made after the GTR Hakosuka. Cars have a brand new physics engine: they link corners, flick into drifts and pass each other. Smoke also had a facelift to look thicker.
Fresh coat of paint
Graphics got a fresh coat of paint, color balance has been improved, the skybox got redesigned, new textures added, and more. The game should feel more vibrant in general.
Lower graphics presets cut expensive detail and effects, Ultra is hidden on integrated GPUs it can't run well, and loading and map switching do less unnecessary work.
Start small, unlock bigger drones
It didn't make sense to keep the 5 inch Freestyle drone as the default drone. It's a lot of drone for a beginner. So the drone unlock ladder has been swapped around:
Tiny Whoop at level 1, 3 inch Cinewhoop at 3, 5 inch Freestyle at 5, 7 inch Long range at 7 and 5 inch R Racer at 11.
If you already had an account before this change, your 5 inch stays unlocked.
The Tiny Whoop, 3 inch and 7 inch also get more thrust, bringing them closer to the real builds they represent. That gives the smaller drones more recovery power and makes the 7 inch less underpowered in open space. 5 inch Freestyle and 5 inch R Racer remain unchanged.
Online Race and Time Attack
You can now enter Races from either the Main Menu or directly in-game by flying in the hologram. Choose between the classic Time Attack or Online Race:
- Time Attack: pick a circuit and chase records with instant retries and up to three ghosts. All time and Today leaderboards are separate for each drone. Only Time Attack runs set board times and personal bests.
- Online Race: one queue for every race map. You race up to three other pilots on the same drone, on a circuit picked at random. After 15 seconds in matchmaking, empty seats are filled with ghosts. Start now skips the wait. Ghosts are labelled, and seats stay empty if there isn't a suitable ghost available yet.
Results and rewards show up as soon as the race ends and stay until you pick what's next. Every pilot keeps one colour across the race, from their trail to the standings.
Team Deathmatch
Team Deathmatch opens at level 3: 4v4 on regular drones, firing projectile bolts at the other team. Each team starts with 20 batteries; knock out an enemy to take a battery away from their team. Run out and your team loses. Matches last up to eight minutes with sudden death for a tie.
The arena has solid walls and a ceiling: drones and bolts stop at its edge. Health, damage and agility give each drone a different role. Bots fill empty seats.
Bring your squad
Play an Online Race with your Squad to race each other and see who's the fastest once and for all. Or join up a Team Deathmatch and team up together against a team of enemies.
Shop and Gear
Shop and Gear cards got a redesign: bigger rarity labels and drone previews that show the whole drone. Gear lists what you own first, and locked items can still be previewed. Skin packs cycle through their skins, and opening one shows every drone in it.
All purchases carry over to Steam and support the development of Flight Division.
Goodbye Dummy Hunt and Shockwave
Dummy Hunt and Shockwave are retired along with the Hunter and Blast drones. Hunter and Blast purchases are refunded in Credits or Parts, and you keep the XP, levels and first clears you earned. The old Dummy skins are retired too.
Dummy and Free Flight
Dummy got a brand new 3D model as well as new animations.
Skill chains got improved with Power Loops, Gaps, Split-S and Reverse Split-S added.
Creators were not forgotten
The map editor got a huge facelift, essentially bringing it as close as possible to Blender. Build limits are also doubled from 2,000 points to 4,000 points.
Sound, skies and other fixes
- Rebuilt motor and world audio, audible nearby pilots and ghosts, and clearer interface, race and combat cues.
- New daylight clouds, lighting and surface detail. New trees have solid trunks and fly-through foliage.
- Free flight keeps running locally through network trouble while servers check competitive results. Lobbies hold up to 24 pilots.
- Joining stays covered until you spawn. If it fails, you get Retry, Play offline or Back to menu instead of silently switching offline.
- Chat now blocks slurs, with temporary chat mutes for repeat offenders, and new usernames and map names are checked too.
- Parts and Credits sit side by side in the header.
- Replays use their recorded maps, including personal maps, and have public clip links. Missing maps are reported instead of playing on the wrong one.
- Sign out of this device from account settings.
- New website home page.
- Removed Herobrine.
